What are the components of Solar PV system?
A typical grid connected solar power system consists of the following components:
- Solar Panels – The panels convert sunlight into DC electricity which is fed to the inverter
- Inverter – The inverter converts the electricity produced by the panels from DC electricity to AC electricity which is what your appliances use. The inverter records the electricity produced
- Bi–directional Meter – The meter records the energy consumption and the amount sent back to the grid
- Mounting System – is used to connect the solar panels on the roof.
How much roof space is required?
The requirement for space varies as per the need and size of the panel. A general solar panel requires 1m x 1.6m of space and four panels equal 1 kilowatt.
How much does it cost?
If you can afford your current utility bill, then you can absolutely afford to switch to solar. By going solar you open an opportunity to protect yourself against rising energy rates! Contact us to find out how you can be cash flow positive from the get-go!
How does Solar Power Work?
Solar Panels generate Direct Current (DC) power from the sunlight. The inverter converts the DC power into AC power which can then be used in your household. A meter installed then measures the energy used in your household and the energy used from the grid and the saving is recorded on your next electricity bill.
Who does the electrical hook-up to the grid?
With the NSW upgrade of meters currently underway most meters are solar compatible, for those who don’t have a solar compatible meter all you have to do is ring up your service provider and ask them to replace your meter which is a free service if it’s a standard change over.
How can you monitor the performance of your solar system on daily basis?
You can track the performance of your solar system through the inverter that is installed adjacent to the switchboard which displays all the generation and consumption information. We offer inverters with Wi-Fi functionality as well which allow you to track this information on your phone and monitor which further allows you to monitor the trend for consumption.
What size system do I need?
The size of the system is determined based on your energy needs, actual consumption and the limitations on installing panels on the roof. To know more about how we can help you identify the best option available to suit your needs, please contact us by submitting your query.
What warrantees are offered with the solar systems offered by us?
It depends on what product you are buying from us. Most of the solar panels come with a 10 years manufacturer’s product warranty and 25 years performance warranty and most of the inverters come with a 5-year manufacturer’s product warranty. On top of it, for some inverters we provide you with additional 5 years warranty. Please check your quote for more details.
Can I add solar panels later?
Yes, additional panel/s can be installed provided that the existing inverter can handle the power output and spare space is available on the roof to accommodate new panel/s. We can also assist with upgrading the inverter should the existing inverter is not capable to handle the additional power output.
Who installs my solar system?
The installation is carried out by qualified licensed electricians accredited by the Clean Energy Council of Australia. For more information, go to www.cleanenergycouncil.org.au
What is STC and who manages the process relating to this?
When you install a solar system, you generate Small Technology Certificates (STCs) sometimes also known as Solar Rebates. Upon installation of the system, STCs are registered and sold to recover a portion of the cost of procuring your solar PV system. Due to the complexity around creating and selling STCs, it’s common practice to assign the right to create the STCs to your solar provider, in exchange for an upfront discount off the full, or ‘true’, system price.
For Ex: STCs generally trade for around $36 each (subject to changes by the federal government), which means you would generally receive around $3,450 discount off the full, or ‘true’, cost of a 5kW system. Our quoted price to you is inclusive of the STC discount and is the final price of your solar system.
Does the solar system work on a cloudy day?
The system will produce electricity during a cloudy day however production will be less compared to a sunny day.
What are the environmental impacts and benefits of solar energy?
Much of the electricity generated from fossil-fuelled power plants is lost in its transmission from the plant, across miles & miles of electric lines, to your home. By having your own rooftop power plant, you eliminate that waste of both electricity and the fuel used to make it! As far as cutting your carbon footprint, going solar is one of the best things you can do for the environment.
Does a solar system cover the entire electricity cost?
It completely depends on the total usage; however, you can save up to 80% on your electricity bills.
Does the solar system work at night?
Solar system works during the daytime. The total estimate solar produce can be used in the daytime and the remaining unused goes back to the grid & is eventually credited back to your electricity bill. For storing solar power, you will require batteries & we request you to contact us as one of our solar experts will explain you about the available Battery Solutions.
What if my roof doesn’t face North?
North facing is the best orientation for the solar panels for optimum energy production however, they can be installed facing anywhere from due east to due west. It is our commitment to you, to ensure that the panels are installed in the best available orientation, so you get the best performance out of your system.
Can I insure my solar system?
Generally, you can under home and contents insurance however, we suggest you contact your insurance provider to seek further details and confirmation.
